Joe Fleming
Operating Partner
Mr. Joseph Fleming was the Chairman and cofounder of Specialty Pharma, Inc., (SPI). SPI was founded in 2002 and was a private-equity-backed leading distributor of biotechnology products and high-tech home infusion therapies in the northeast that was sold in September, 2006. Mr. Fleming focused particularly on new drug distribution, payer relationships and sales and marketing activities. He is a member of the National Home Infusion Association, and he is active in issues affecting the pharmacy industry in Washington, DC. Mr. Needham and Mr. Fleming have known each other for 20 years and have worked closely on both financing and buyout proposals.
Mr. Fleming was also co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Community Rehab Centers, one of the largest networks of rehabilitation centers in the Northeast, from 1994 until its sale in 2001. Other past professional roles include President of JP Fleming Associates, Inc., a pharmacy and home healthcare consulting company, and Vice President and General Manager of Home Health at ITS, Inc., a subsidiary of American Medical International, Inc. During the 1970s, he was a community pharmacist.
Mr. Fleming was a board member with Mr. Needham for Hospice West, Inc., and he is past president and fund raising chair of the Nashoba Regional Scholarship Foundation, which is part of Dollars for Scholars, a national organization of more than 1,200 community-based scholarship foundations.
Mr. Fleming holds two degrees from Northeastern University, PAH’70, MS’71. At Northeastern, Mr. Fleming has established a healthcare Entrepreneurs Roundtable, which brings alumni in the healthcare industry back to campus for discussion on healthcare issues. He was also chair of Northeastern’s Bouvé College Resource Development Committee, where he played a lead fund raising role as part of the University’s $200 million Leadership Campaign.
Alan Glass

Mr. Glass serves as the non-executive Chairman of Board of CFO Publishing, a Seguin portfolio company. Mr. Glass has over 35 years of successful operating experience in many segments of the business-to-business publishing and information sector. Prior to his involvement with Seguin, Mr. Glass worked closely together with Mr. Madden in the acquisition of Commonwealth Business Media ("CBM") and the implementation of its growth and acquisitions strategy from 2000 until the company’s sale in July 2006. During that time, Mr. Glass served as the company’s Chairman and CEO, a role he maintained after the sale to United Business Media ("UBM") and held until December 2008. Subsequent to the sale to UBM, Mr. Glass was instrumental in more than doubling the size of the business with key acquisitions, including the Official Airline Guide in late 2006.
Prior to forming CBM, Mr. Glass spent 20 years serving in a number of different capacities with Primedia Information, Inc. From 1997 until the change in ownership in 2000, he was the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer. During his tenure with Primedia, the company grew its sales volume 8-times and increased profits an unprecedented 26-times.
Prior to joining Primedia, Mr. Glass was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Thomson Transport Press. A start-up in 1980, Thomson Transport Press rapidly grew to be a dominant provider of critical information used in the worldwide transportation market. Thomson Transport Press completed eight acquisitions in the transportation market during his tenure. Mr. Glass began his publishing career in 1972 with The Wall Street Journal. He holds a BA in Political Science from Ursinus College and an MA in Education from Villanova University. Mr. Glass currently serves as a director of Ziff Davis Enterprise and is a senior advisor to World Tek Travel Services.
Ed Jenks

Over his career Mr. Jenks has developed extensive senior executive experience and a deep understanding of strategic planning and implementation. Currently he is President of Transhumance the world's largest vertically integrated lamb producer. Prior to taking on this assignment Mr. Jenks was Chief Executive Officer of The Jenks Group® a strategic planning and executive coaching consultancy.
Prior to founding The Jenks Group® he held the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer of the largest privately held security firm in the nation. Mr. Jenks began his career in education before moving on to banking and manufacturing in the late 1970's. His fascination with strategic planning and strategic plan management began in 1981 during his tenure with Daiwa Inc. In the mid 1980's he began to formulate a strategic planning process that he has since used to help clients, coast to coast, improve top and bottom line performance.
Mr. Jenks is a guest lecturer in the UC system, has served on numerous boards for both government and private enterprise, and is well known for his ability to manage and deliver sustainable bottom line results.
Mr. Jenks earned his BS degree in Education from Keene State College and his Executive Immersion Certificate in Finance from Stanford. He is a certified behavioralist and Executive Coach.
Peter Michel

Mr. Peter Michel is an accomplished senior executive with a career distinguished by achievement in both business and government. He is currently the CEO of iSecureTrac (OTCBB: ISEC) a leading provider of electronic monitoring systems, client management software and supplemental services for use in community supervision.
Mr. Michel has led several technology-based service companies as Chief Executive Officer. He is a recognized leader in the security services industry, and was formerly CEO of Brink's Home Security. During his tenure there, Mr. Michel transformed the company from a $26 million security firm to a $258 million leader in high-tech home protection services, supporting over 700,000 households in more than 100 markets and 42 states. Mr. Michel established Brink's Home Security as the industry's service and quality leader and achieved record operating profits for 12 years in a row.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Michel refined his skills in general management, strategy and marketing as a top strategic planner for Penn Central, American Standard and Gulf Oil.
Mr. Michel has chaired five not-for-profit boards and served as Chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council of the Security Industry Association. His public sector experience includes serving as a policy-level executive in the Federal government, including time on the White House Staff. Earlier he served as a seagoing officer in the US Navy.
Mr. Michel earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Colgate University.
David Pliner

Mr. David Pliner was the President and co-founder of Specialty Pharma, Inc. (SPI) from 2002 until its sale in 2006. Mr. Pliner focused particularly on operations, systems, finance, billing and collections. He is a member of the National Home Infusion Association, and he is active in issues affecting the pharmacy industry in Washington, DC. Mr. Pliner and Mr. Fleming have been partners in various healthcare business ventures since 1982. Mr. Pliner and Mr. Needham have known each other for over ten years and have worked closely together on financing and buyout proposals.
Mr. Pliner was also co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Community Rehab Centers (CRC) from its founding in 1994 to its sale in 2001. Mr. Pliner was responsible for managing CRC’s growth from start-up to national scale in which it had 75 clinics and 150 contract sites in 40 states. Other past professional roles include home healthcare consultant for Universal Management Systems, President of David Pliner and Associates, a healthcare consulting firm, and Vice President of Operations of AMI Home Health a division of ITS, Inc., a subsidiary of American Medical International, Inc.
While he was active with CRC, Mr. Pliner was a board member and treasurer of The National Association of Rehabilitation Agencies. He is a director, officer and treasurer of a skilled nursing center, rehabilitation center, assisted living facility, and adult day care center and is a director and volunteer with several other community organizations.
Mr. Pliner earned a BS in Social Work from Ohio State University and has taken numerous courses and seminars in healthcare billing, accounting, finance, customer service, sales and corporate compliance. |
